Pat Branting - Biography

In 1976 I moved to beautiful Bozeman, Montana where Montana’s spectacular scenery inspired my love of painting.  I grew up loving the outdoors along the Platte Rivers nearby lakes and beautiful sandhills in North Platte, Nebraska.  I graduated form the University of Nebraska with a BA in education and an art minor.

I participated in workshops and classes from numerous professional artists who have helped and inspired me over the years.  I’ve come to love watercolor as my medium of expression which best portrays my favorite subjects, from nature’s florals and portraits.  Light is the key ingredient for each subject, form nature’s little treasures to majestic mountains scenes.

Retired from a teaching career of 34 years, I now have more time to paint full time.  Painting people, landscapes, and animals in natural surrounding with the light creating a special mood is especially inspiring for me.  Flower gardening is a fulfilling hobby that also finds its way into my paintings where I try to capture the natural light on the garden flowers.

I’m excited to continue working on the challenges of watercolor painting.  My paintings are currently on display at the Painted Pony Gallery in Big Sky and at my studio.  I have had the privilege of being the artist in residence for the National Wildlife Federation in Maine 2003, Rocky Mountain National Park , CO. in 2004 and in 2006 at the Snowbird Resort in Salt Lake City, UT.  This year will find me painting in my studio and teaching adult watercolor classes.
